Global Carbon Budget 2019

Earth System Science Data (ESSD) has announced the publication of the 2019 annual Global Carbon Budget. This extensively reviewed product represents work by more than 70 researchers from more than 50 institutions. Together they compile, quantify, and assess anthropogenic carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions and their redistribution among the atmosphere, ocean, and terrestrial biosphere. For the calendar year 2018 – the most recent year of reporting – CO₂ emissions reached 10 Gt of carbon per year for the first time in history and are expected to further increase by 0.6% (range: -0.2% to +1.5%) in 2019. Thanks to the open-access policies of ESSD and of the Global Carbon Project, readers can access complete, accurate, and unique information in free and open formats.

The annual update of the global carbon budget is produced by the Global Carbon Project and was started in 2006. This is the 8th update of the global carbon budget published by ESSD in the living data format:
